GATE


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.
These technical institutes take turns to conduct the examination each year. The GATE examination for the year 2013 is conducted by IIT, Bombay. The variation in rules for the examination is finalized by the conducting institute. There are changes every year in this regard which is good as for one, it prevents the system being redundant and second, it caters to a broad spectrum of candidates. The aim of any alteration introduced in comparison to the previous years is that it suits the changing dynamic environment and favors more people.

Students can browse to any IIT site and they will get all the required info regarding the exam. Mainly the exam is the kind of entrance exam for getting admitted into various postgraduate courses like M Tech,M.S. M.Des, PhD in IITs and IISc Bangalore though  most of the other prestigious colleges including NITs and IIITs make use of GATE in anyway  to enroll students in their various programmes .

Financial Assistance

A valid GATE score is essential for obtaining a financial assistance during Masters programmes and in some cases during direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering/Technology/Architechture, and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science in an Institution supported by the MHRD or other Government organizations.  To avail the financial assistance (scholarship), the candidate must first secure admission to a programme in these Institutes, by a procedure that could be different for each institute.  Qualification in GATE is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations.
However, candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture may seek admission to relevant Doctoral programmes with scholarship/assistantship without appearing in the GATE examination.

GATE is no more just Entrance Exam.

Gate is not just entrance exam to take admission into various postgraduate exams any more.
Many of the public sector companies namely NTPC,IOCL,BHEL,HPCL,DDA,NALCO,BARC,GAIL and many others,have started to accept GATE score as the qualifying exam to get through their recruitment process.

Global Exposure 

Not just  top indian institutes,some foreign universities also accept GATE score for their postgraduate programmes. National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University Singapore are such two universities based in singapore.Both of the universities are among the top 25 technical universities of the world,even above IITs. Some European universities namely German TUM & RWTH also accept GATE score card for some of their programmes.
