Asus has launched its ZenFone series of smartphones in the Indian market.
Taiwanese tech titan Asus, that already has a presence in other electronics segments in India, has announced its entry into the burgeoning Indian smartphone market with the launch of three attractively priced smartphones - the Asus ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and the ZenFone 6 at Rs 5,999 onwards.
The Taiwanese company has announced that the 8GB variant of ZenFone 5 will be available for Rs 9,999; the price of the 16GB version has not been revealed yet but a Flipkart listing quotes it at Rs 12,999. The smartphone will directly compete against Moto G and features a bigger display but an older version of Android.

Asus ZenFone 5 has a 5-inch screen with 720p resolution and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It runs on a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with HyperThreading technology 2GB RAM and packs 2GB RAM. On the back, it has an 8MP camera with LED flash, while a 2MP camera is placed in front.
The biggest model in Asus's smartphone series, ZenFone 6, has also been launched in India. The 16GB model costs Rs 16,999, making it the most aggressively-priced 6-inch phablet in the Indian market. Major players like Sony and Nokia sell their 6-inch smartphones with similar configuration at approximately Rs 25,000 in India.
This phablet is powered by Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) mobile operating system and has a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 chipset under the hood. ZenFone 6 supports external storage up to 64GB via microSD cards and has 2GB RAM. This phablet has a 13MP camera with LED flash on the back and a 2MP camera in front and packs a 3,300mAh battery.
Asus will also launch its ZenFone 4 smartphones and the new FonePad 7 voice-calling tablet at the same event.
ZenFone 4 series, available at starting price of Rs 5,999, features phones in two screen sizes: 4-inch and 4.5-inch. The bigger variant has display resolution of 480x854p, comes with an 8MP rear camera, runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and packs a 1,750mAh battery. The smaller model has 480x800p screen resolution, 5MP camera, Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and 1,600mAh battery.
Both smartphones are powered by 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with 1GB RAM and come with 8GB internal storage and microSD card support up to 64GB. The 4.5-inch model will be available at Rs 6,999 on Flipkart. The phones will compete with Motorola's entry-level smartphone, Moto E.
